About us

Who are The Gamers' Tavern?

The Gamers' Tavern was founded by Alex, back in 2022 as a solo streamer, looking to make a cosy and friendly gaming stream where people could gather and chat. Alex himself explains the history of this in this blog post here.

A safe, inclusive and cosy place for everyone

The Gamers' Tavern is a cosy gaming community talking of course about gaming, but we also share passions such as Linux (even Arch users, btw), tech, and FOSS. On our Discourse server, you'll find a wealth of different topics that we discuss. There is no limitation on what you can talk about, so long as it respects the rules and etiquette.

The main goal of the community is providing gamers a cosy and safe home to play together.

The Gamers' Tavern won't ever feed you ads or sell your data, we are against all those BSs and that's why we are active predominantly Fediverse media. (Discourse isn't Fediverse based, but federation support is potentially coming). Take a look at our privacy statement here if you wish.

We just want to play together and have fun.

MissionGiraffe | She/Her

I'm from the  with two young daughters and a daft cat. I did a compsci PhD some time ago focused on community managed wireless mesh networks. Now working as an Enterprise Architect, previously working in Business Analysis and Human Factors.

I like F1, crochet & photography, and I'm an aspiring cricketer. Mac user, linux dabbler, previously more techie than I am today. Interested in infosec but a total noob. Could also say the same about Dungeons and Dragons / ttrpg.

Harry | He/Him

Hi, I'm Harry! From the UK and a former A&E Nurse, now running my own business with my old man in the building industry where my main line of work is in SEO, web building and ecommerce. My title is unofficially "General Dogsbody".

I have a dark sense of humour (finely honed from my years n an Emergency Department) and I'm interested in healthcare, gaming, tech, self repair, FOSS and climate change.

My main focus in gaming is sim racing, specifically rally. I have a Peertube channel where I post videos and occasionally live stream my incredible crashes into trees attempts to become a professional sim racer.

The Gamers' Tavern Mascots

"wait...you have goats?"

Why yes, in fact, we do. They are two elderly chilled and gentle goats called Ben & Jerry- and they are TGT mascots (though very due retirement soon as they are both 14 years of age). They have their own Mastodon account, too.

Where Can You Find The Gamers' Tavern?

We are active across multiple different services, however you'll find us mainly based in our self hosted Discourse instance where we all chat with each other. This isn't an exclusive club- everyone is welcome. However, we also self host multiple different services where you can find many of the community active on, such as Mastodon, Peertube, Discourse and Ghost (blog).

Who Can Join The Gamers' Tavern?

Well, anyone. So long as you are happy to follow the rules & etiquette. As mentioned above, it's not difficult: be kind.

We are open to people from all walks of life, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, identity or religious beliefs. We strictly do not tolerate anyone that engages in or promotes hatred/harassment towards others. There's enough hatred in the world these days- we want this place to be a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.

How Are The Gamers' Tavern Funded?

We are entirely donation funded. All our staff are volunteers. Our financials are totally transparent and published quarterly which you can view. We are currently in the process of migrating these from our old blog (Writefreely) to the blog on this site- and will have them available to view shortly!

In case it wasn't already obvious, we are not for profit. We don't harvest and sell data for profit. You can read our privacy statement here.

Our donations are received via Ko-Fi. They are not mandatory, but always welcomed. The world of self hosting away from big tech always comes with a cost.
